Car shipping from Tampa, FL to Miami, FL
Figures below are worked out for this specific corridor and dated.
Before pickup: why the carrier gives a pickup window, not an hour; how to prepare the car; and what the pickup inspection protects.
Driving cost: 280 mi × 76¢/mi (IRS rate) = $213, a 1-day drive. See the full math.
The route between Tampa and Miami
I-75 for about 236 of the 280 miles, including Alligator Alley across the Everglades, reached from Miami by I-95, about 10 miles of Florida's Turnpike and I-595; the Selmon Expressway (SR 618) carries the last 8 miles into downtown Tampa.
Three tolled stretches: Alligator Alley (I-75 through the Everglades), the short Florida's Turnpike segment near Miami, and the Selmon Expressway into Tampa.
What did other companies quote for this trip?
What we were quoted for one running 2020 Toyota RAV4, open carrier, door to door, all-in (companies not named):
- $745 (Miami to Tampa): a licensed broker, 2026-09-23. "All inclusive", open carrier, first available October 12 with a three-day pickup window.
- $745: the same broker, 2026-09-23. Same all-in price in the other direction.
One company is not a market, so hold this $745 loosely. At $2.66 a mile for 280 miles it sits inside the $2 to $3.50 a mile that most of our quotes under 300 miles came to, so it is not an outlier; but on a lane this well traveled, a second quote from a carrier based at either end costs you one email.
Here the direction made no difference to the price. That is not guaranteed on every lane or in every season, so ask for the direction you need. The tolls on this lane (Alligator Alley, a short stretch of Florida's Turnpike near Miami, and the Selmon Expressway into Tampa) belong in an all-in quote; ask if a quote does not say all-in.
Check any quote, ours included, with the quote checker; quotes on other routes are on car shipping cost, and days on the truck by distance in the transit time estimator.
What can delay a shipment on this lane?
- Most of this lane is one of Florida's hurricane-evacuation routes. The Alligator Alley stretch of I-75 is an emergency shoulder-use segment in both directions, and so is I-75 north from Naples. When the state opens those shoulders in an evacuation, cars may use them but large trucks and trailers may not, so a loaded car carrier stays in the general lanes with the evacuation traffic. (Florida Department of Transportation, read 2026-09-26)
- Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so a pickup on this lane in those months is the one to book with a flexible window. (National Hurricane Center, read 2026-09-26)
- For Hurricane Milton, Florida waived the tolls on two of this lane's three toll stretches, Alligator Alley and the Selmon Expressway, from October 7 to 14, 2024, to move evacuating traffic. A waived toll does not change an all-in quote; the storm around it changes the schedule. (Office of the Governor of Florida, read 2026-09-26)
