Privacy Policy for Car Shipping Requests
Effective September 27, 2026.
Who this covers
This policy covers information collected by PlainHaul through this site and the booking flow, and what the site records when you use it. Contact bookings@plainhaul.com with privacy questions.
What we collect
To price and arrange your shipment, we collect what you give us in a request: your name, email, phone, pickup and delivery addresses as you typed them, vehicle details, whether the vehicle runs, preferred pickup window, and any notes. This information is stored with your request. For an online-priced shipment, Stripe processes your card payment through its checkout; we keep the payment reference and status with your request, not your full card number.
We also collect what you write to us by email, and some information about how the site is used: pages viewed, the page that sent you here, buttons clicked, your browser and device type, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. Our analytics events never carry your addresses, contact details or notes. We record sessions to see where the site is hard to use. Anything typed into a form field is masked in your browser before a recording is sent, but a screen that shows your details back to you, such as the payment confirmation, can appear in a recording. When you start a payment, we attach the analytics session reference to the payment record so we can see which pages led to a booking. Like any website, our servers receive your IP address, which we use to keep the site running and to limit spam and abuse.
Why we collect it
We use this information to calculate or confirm your price, arrange your shipment with a vetted carrier or licensed broker, confirm your pickup window, and contact you about your shipment. We also use it to take payment and issue refunds, to help with a damage claim, to keep the business and tax records the law requires, to understand how the site is used and fix what does not work, and to block spam and fraud. We do not use it to build an advertising profile, and we do not send you marketing unless you ask us to.
Who sees it
- The carrier or broker arranging your shipment. We book your shipment in your name, so it receives your name, phone number and email address along with your addresses, vehicle details and pickup window. The carrier and the Bill of Lading list you as the shipper, and the driver contacts you directly.
- Companies that run parts of the service for us, each limited to that job: Stripe processes payments; Supabase hosts the database where requests are stored; Mailgun sends our email, including request and payment alerts to our own mailbox, which Google hosts; PostHog is our analytics tool, and it receives site-use data through this site's own address; Vercel hosts the site.
- Others, only when required. We disclose information when the law requires it, to protect people's safety or our legal rights, or to a buyer if the business is ever sold, in which case this policy continues to apply to it.
We do not sell your information to third parties, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We do not publish which carrier or broker we route a given shipment to.
Referral requests
If you ask about a route we do not book, we reply to you with licensed companies that run it. We do not send your details to those companies; you decide whether to contact them, and what you share with them is covered by their own privacy policies.
Cookies and browser storage
Our analytics tool stores a first-party cookie and a local storage entry to tell one visit from the next. The booking page loads Stripe's payment script, which sets its own cookies to help prevent fraud. We do not use advertising cookies. You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings, and the site still works.
Text messages
We do not currently run an SMS program for PlainHaul; quotes, confirmations, and updates come by email or through this site. If that changes, this page will say so and describe the consent and opt-out rules that apply. The carrier may call or text you about pickup and delivery under its own practices.
How long we keep it
We keep request and booking records for 3 years after your shipment is delivered, or for 3 years after your last contact with us if no shipment was booked, then delete them. Payment and tax records are kept for as long as tax law requires. Analytics data and recordings are kept in our analytics tool under its retention settings and are used only to understand and improve the site.
How we protect it
Requests are stored in a private database that only our server can read, over encrypted connections. When a person needs to act on a request, its details also reach our email inbox. Card numbers never reach our systems. No system is perfectly secure; if you think information you gave us has been exposed, tell us at once.
Your choices
Contact us at Contact to ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to request its deletion, subject to any records we are required to keep. We may ask you to write from the email address on the request so we know it is yours. If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another state with its own privacy law, you have the rights that law gives you, including access, correction, deletion and a right not to be discriminated against for using them.
Children
Requests must come from adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page as our service and data practices change. The version in effect is the one posted at the time of your request.
Online and emailed prices
This policy applies whether you get an online price or a price a person emails you. See the Terms of Service for payment, refunds, and carrier arrangement.
