Cancellation and Refunds for Car Shipping
Effective September 27, 2026. This policy is part of our Terms of Service.
Before you pay
If a person is building your price by email, you owe nothing and can walk away at any point before you approve that price; nothing is charged until you give the go-ahead.
Before we confirm a carrier
If your route has an online price and you pay at checkout, we then work to confirm a carrier for your shipment. If we cannot confirm a carrier for your shipment at the price you paid, we refund your payment in full; that commitment is unconditional, described on How our pricing works. If you want to cancel yourself before we have confirmed a carrier, email bookings@plainhaul.com with your reference; since no carrier has been engaged yet, we cancel your shipment and refund your payment in full.
After a carrier is confirmed
Once a carrier is confirmed for your shipment, you can still cancel: email bookings@plainhaul.com with your booking reference. A fixed cancellation fee of $239 applies, and we refund the rest of your payment. The same $239 fee applies if the driver arrives inside your confirmed pickup window and the car is not available or not as described (a dry run). The fee is never more than the amount you paid.
Rescheduling
To move your pickup or delivery window, email bookings@plainhaul.com with your booking reference. A new window is a change to your existing shipment, not a cancellation. Before a carrier is confirmed, it costs nothing unless the price changes, and we confirm any new price with you before it applies. After a carrier is confirmed, we ask the carrier to move the pickup; if it can, we charge no fee of our own and confirm any price change with you first. If it cannot, you can keep the original window or cancel on the terms above.
If the carrier drops out
If a confirmed carrier drops out, we look for another carrier at no extra cost to you. If we cannot find one for a window you accept, we cancel the shipment and refund your payment in full.
Refunds
Refunds apply to payments received. Contact us with your booking reference so we can confirm the status of your shipment and the amount due back. Approved refunds go to the original payment method; we send a refund confirmation, and your bank determines when the credit appears.
If something is damaged in transit
The carrier that moves your vehicle carries the cargo insurance on it. Inspect the car with the driver at pickup and again at delivery, and write any damage on the Bill of Lading before you sign it; damage that is not noted on the delivery Bill of Lading is very hard to claim later. Take photos, and tell us within 48 hours of delivery. Claims go to the carrier and its insurer, under the carrier's own claim rules and deadlines. We help you with the booking record, the carrier's USDOT number (and MC number, where it has one) and a copy of the Bill of Lading, but we do not pay or adjust damage claims ourselves. See car shipping insurance, inspection, and damage claims for how that coverage works.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page as our carrier agreements and payment capabilities change. The version in effect is the one posted at the time of your request.
